Nang
Nang? I’ve always liked the look of Chinese and Japanese characters, and marveled at the artistry involved, so I decided to try to make some out of Legos. I can’t read, write, or speak Chinese, but I do have a Chinese font. So I typed my name in the Chinese Generic font, and this is what it gave me. I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything, but that wasn’t important. The little pieces between the squares are hinges, like the ones from the old castle sets. They’re aranged so that the entire thing can fold up on itself. Kind of like a Jacob’s Ladder. Oh, yeah. The name. Well, before I had come up with a name for it, Steve Ivy’s wife, Jodi, asked me, “What are you calling that name thing?” Then I thought, “hmm, Name Thing?” Ah, that’s it! Name Thing -> Nang. As a coincidence, my favorite A-Team member, Howling Mad Murdock, wears a leather jacket which reads “Da Nang” on the back. Cool.
