Life and Vista
Sunday, August 26th, 2007So we’ve finished up one month as parents. And what a month it has been. Sophie is doing well, asleep for now, and we’re getting out 2 to 3 hour sleep sessions in throughout the week. We’ve had some very rough nights and lately we’ve had some really great nights. Sophie slept for nearly 4 hours a couple of nights ago! Other than this, there really hasn’t been much going on.
I did have the extreme displeasure of having to copy data from an old computer to a new one running Windows Vista for one of Amanda’s friends. All I can say after that experience, is that I hope I never have to touch another computer infected with Vista for the rest of my life. All the bad press Vista has received is totally grounded as far as I’m concerned. The interfaces for searching for files make no sense and the file security warnings and settings are insanely cryptic EVEN FOR ME! It took me hours to simply copy some files from one hard drive to another. Microsoft tried so hard (or not hard enough?) to make Vista look slick, like a Mac, but failed. Simply from an artistic point of view, it’s just plain ugly. I guess you can always switch back to classic view as most of us do in XP, but I was really hoping for something nice and modern. ::sigh:: I don’t know what I’m going to do when XP is dead. I’m too entwined in the Windows world at work to completely switch to Mac or even Linux. All I know, is that my decision to get a Mac next year and start learning that world, is all the more assured.
