Birds at the Door
Saturday, April 14th, 2007
Apparently, a local bird couple decided that the wreath on our front door was an ideal spot to create a nest and start a family. The cats were the first to find out and were not amused. After a week or so, there was one egg, but a few days later there were four. The mother bird kept them warm through the freak snow storm we had a week ago and now they have hatched. One egg was lost (we assume stolen by a larger bird) but the three baby birds look fine albeit uglier than sin. I set up a camera (duh) so that we can watch them be fed from the comfort of our living room. Perhaps I can stream the video to the webcam page at some point. I guess there must be something about this house that just wants to nurture new life. Thank God our cats are all fixed.
Update: For a limited time, you can watch the birds grow up too! In other words…
Update 2: They’re growing up surrounded by poop. I guess that’s to make them want to leave the nest. Here’s a lovely picture.
Update 3: It can’t be long now. They barely fit inside the nest. See?
Update 4: The final bird flew off today. Our nest is now, sadly, empty. :[ But at least it is still covered in poop. A disgusting reminder of what transpired before us.
